A Geohistory Traverse of the Perth CBD – Geoparks Australia

A Geohistory Traverse of the Perth CBD

Join the Australian Institute of Geoscientists as Tony Webster leads a geological traverse of the Perth CBD to show how geology and the pre-European landscape influenced the first years of Perth, and how those influences live on in the modern urban environment.

*This event is free and is for AIG Members only. If spaces are not filled, registrations will open to non-members.

When: Monday, 5 May 12:30pm

Where: Perth, WA. Meet at the Queens Gardens.

Starting at the Queens Gardens in East Perth (former brick clay pits), this traverse will follow the approximate line of the 1829 shoreline, and the higher ground immediately behind it, visiting key localities that influenced the pattern of the first decade of British settlement on the Swan River Estuary. It will be shown how patterns that developed in the urban fabric of early Perth were a response to geological and landscape features, and how they remain deeply embedded in the modern fabric of the CBD.
