Bindjareb Geopark officially launched in Peel Region – Geoparks Australia

Bindjareb Geopark officially launched in Peel Region

Western Australia’s second Local Geopark, the Bindjareb Geopark, was officially launched on April 15 by Minister for Peel Region, Jessica Stojkovski MLA.

Located about 100 kilometres south of Perth within Noongar Bindjareb Boodja, the geopark spans the Peel Development Commission region and the local government areas of Mandurah, Murray and Waroona.

It highlights the unique thrombolites of Lake Clifton in Yalgorup National Park, along with other significant geosites, scenic landscapes and the Peel Ramsar wetlands.

The Minister also launched the Bindjareb Trail Guide and mobile app, designed to help visitors explore the region’s geological and cultural features. The resources were developed by Geoparks WA in partnership with local stakeholders and funded by the Peel Development Commission.

Minister Stojkovski said the geopark celebrates the region’s geology, culture and environment while supporting ecotourism and regional development.

“The Trail Guide and mobile app make the Bindjareb Geopark more accessible to locals and visitors, providing engaging information about key geosites and stories across the region,” she said.

Peel Development Commission Chair Myri Riddy said the project demonstrates how collaboration between traditional owners, community, tourism organisations and government can build a sustainable visitor economy.

Geoparks WA vice president, Professor Ross Dowling said the launch marks another milestone for geotourism in Western Australia.

“The Bindjareb Geopark is well placed to meet growing global demand for meaningful nature-based experiences,” he said.

The launch was attended by representatives from the Bindjareb community, local governments, Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council, Rotary, and the Peel Development Commission. Special recognition was given to Dr Yifei Ren for his voluntary technical contribution to the development of the mobile app.
